CareRev: Supported by Nurses

Meet some of the nurses who work at CareRev HQ and learn why they have transitioned from patient care to a career supporting other nurses.

Nurse Supported.

CareRev hires dozens of RNs internally to ensure we’re empowering and supporting nurses, techs, and CNAs the best way we possibly can. Who knows better than those who have been there, done that? We’re extremely proud to be nurse founded, nurse supported, and nurse trusted

CareRev is built by and for healthcare professionals, and our team’s experience reflects the workforce we serve. Our goal is to empower healthcare professionals to create the life they want. We know firsthand how challenging and rewarding patient care can be; that’s why we are committed to ensuring our frontline workers have the tools they need to find professional freedom, eliminate burnout, and take control of their healthcare careers.

To celebrate and highlight some of the nurses at CareRev HQ, we asked our team members why they made the transition from patient care to a career of professionally supporting other nurses. Meet the team below!

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

Teamwork is a huge component when it comes to working in healthcare, and to me, it's a no-brainer to help out your co-workers when you see that they need it. I think we all can relate to the stress and struggle that comes from working in healthcare, so helping each other is necessary.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

Do things you love outside of work, and find hobbies outside in the sun where you can decompress. Also, find friends at work! People at your job make it or break it, so if you can find little joy while working with your co-workers, that helps immensely.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev because I'm a BIG advocate for healthcare professionals being their own boss. Being tied down to a facility as a FTE really has no benefit and no work-life balance, so per diem is something I've always advocated for.

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

In helping other nurses, it is most important to me that nurses are supported and advocated for.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

My biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout is to remember why they became a nurse, and use that reason(s) to motivate them to either push forward at the bedside or find other opportunities where they can help fellow nurses.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev because I loved that it was nurse founded, but also because I wanted to help other nurses achieve a work/life balance. This is something I am passionate about but also struggled with while being a bedside RN.

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

The most important thing to me in helping other nurses during the staffing shortages is to prioritize patient care and safety. This means making sure that all patients receive the necessary attention and care they require, for most nurses during this time this means going above and beyond their usual duties. It is essential to remain flexible and adaptable, as staffing shortages can often require nurses to step outside of their comfort zones and take on new responsibilities. By providing the extra support needed at this time and giving the nurses flexibility, I believe we can contribute to helping them navigate through the challenges of staffing shortages so they can continue to provide high-quality care to those who need it most.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

Don't forget to remember yourself. Take time out to replenish yourself physically, emotionally and mentally. It is built in a nurse's DNA to care for others first. They tend to forget to care for the most important person, which is themselves. If you don't take care of yourself first, how do you expect to continue to care for others? Take breaks! It is not uncommon for a nurse to work a 12 hour shift without taking bathroom breaks, without eating, and without hydrating. Take steps to assure you are getting breaks. Another necessary step is to seek support. Nurses may go home after a shift and discuss their crazy day with their spouse, but if that spouse is not in the medical field, they do not and will not ever truly understand the emotional struggles your day has brought. It helps to decompress with those that understand. Set up regular dinners out with your co-workers or even other nurses from other departments or facilities to decompress from the weeks before. Talking to others that understand where you are coming from can help you process your emotions and alleviate stress. And lastly, be sure to engage in activities outside of work. Finding hobbies or activities that you enjoy outside of work can help maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev because after working two years through a pandemic, although I was not at the bedside during that time, it created a high level stress work environment. There was no opportunity for work-life balance because in the position I was in it was expected to work long hours during the week and a minimum of three hours each day on the weekend. This was seven days a week for two years straight, without breaks on holidays or vacation time. I had the opportunity to hear about CareRev and their understanding of work-life balance, this sparked my attention. I was in management in the hospital and I dealt with staffing and the inability to  fill all the shifts we needed, so when I learned what CareRev does I was excited to be part of a solution. To have a firm belief that this may bring stability to healthcare systems and give nurses the flexibility they need without having to leave home for an agency, I was all in and wanted to help find a way to improve the process and the product so hospitals do not want to be without CareRev. I am happy about the decision I made to leave the hospital and join a team passionate about being a solution to an ever growing problem in healthcare!

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

As a bedside RN for 12 years, I spent my days advocating for my patients and their families. I made sure that they were educated, supported, comforted, and loved. When I stopped and took a step back, I began to wonder: “Who is advocating for us healthcare professionals?”

THAT is why I chose CareRev. I have the opportunity here to advocate for bedside providers, like myself. I ensure healthcare professionals are beyond-satisfied with their work/life balance, and are being paid what they are worth! I love that at CareRev I have the ability to support my colleagues, and keep a pulse on the industry as a whole. I now leverage my experience and knowledge of the healthcare system to assist nurses in creating their dream career!

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

I am a huge supporter of nurses and advocating for nurses. I think the most important thing for me is to make sure that nurses feel heard, seen, and acknowledged for all the amazing things they do each and every day. As well as the sacrifices and compromises they make to ensure they give their all to their patients.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

Take a break. You cannot pour from an empty cup. I believe we show up best for other by first showing up for ourselves. You deserve to have peace and mental health and work life balance. Take the break, the vacation, the day to not get off the couch. Choose you.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev because of my passion for advocating for health care professionals and patients. By supporting a platform like CareRev I get to support health care professionals taking their career and schedules into their own hands. This then leads to patient advocates because the best nurses are happy nurses. I love that in my role I get to talk to our professionals every day and understand what they are going through and connect them with our facility partners.

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

It's most important to me to help nurses stay in the field and continue to improve in their careers!

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

My biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout is don't give up, and make a change! There are avenues within the nursing profession that provide the opportunity to make a positive impact, allow you to prioritize what is important to you, AND decrease your stress level! The CareRev platform allows nurses everywhere to make their own schedules, work on their own terms, and create their ideal work-life balance. Make the change!

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev not only for the company mission, but for the flexibility! I continue to use my years of nursing knowledge to make a positive impact for fellow nurses, and CareRev has provided me the flexibility and work-life balance I've always dreamed of having!

What is most important to you in helping other nurses?

I have experienced how mentally and physically draining working on the hospital's schedule can be. Working on the hospital's full-time schedule forced me to miss out on my family life. I want to help give nurses opportunities to create their own flexibility to be more satisfied with their nursing career and life outside of the hospital.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

Find something you enjoy doing outside of work and take full advantage of that. Make sure you take the time to decompress after leaving your shift. For me, that is gardening. I would come home from my shift and water my plants and pull weeds to unwind from a shift.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I chose CareRev because I believe that we are changing the lives of nurses for the better. We help nurses not to have to live by a hospital's schedule. No more on-call shifts or mandatory overtime. Just because you chose to be a nurse as your profession does not mean hospitals get to force you to work yourself into burnout.

What is your biggest piece of advice for nurses experiencing burnout?

My biggest advice for nurses who may be experiencing burn out is to find ways to recharge. Whether it’s reading a book, cooking with friends or family or going on a long solo walk, find ways to balance work and life and give yourself the time to do things that you enjoy. I know it’s cliché to say but you can't pour from an empty cup so make sure you are taking care of yourself first and foremost.

Why did you choose CareRev?

I love the mission of CareRev and I love being able to offer nurses a flexible way to pick up shifts and the options to be able to work when and where they want.
